You might say Ruthie’s life is about the “beauty and struggles” she encountered in her journey to stardom. Those struggles and adversities shaped her life as she followed her dreams, became an Olympic superstar and a professional basketball player.
Born in McClain, Mississippi, Ruthie was the 16th of 20 children of Rev. Linwood and Leola Bolton. She has over 105 nieces and nephews and a twin brother, Allen Ray.
When Ruthie was a kid, all she wanted to do was play outside. She didn’t have GameBoys, Wii’s, or PlayStations, and she wasn’t allowed to watch TV. But that was okay because being part of a family with 19 brothers and sisters meant there were always a lot of things to do anyway.
Ruthie’s father, and mentor, gave her guidance throughout her younger years, which was the foundation that ultimately led to her to success. And a remarkable life it has been. She obtained two Olympic Gold Medals, a WNBA championship ring, and played basketball worldwide.
Today, Ruthie strives to give back to society and the community the same wonderful guidance, direction and inspiration she received from her father. Should you have the chance to hear her story, it’s a story you’ll never forget. So if you’re a young adult who has dreams to fulfill, buckle up your seat belt and get ready for “the ride of your lifetime”. Just like Ruthie did…you can make your dreams come true.
